New Orleans Birth Photography Two Moms And Baby E | Same Sex Birth Photography
Do you ever meet people and just *click*? That’s exactly how it was when I met Alyssa and Nikki. One would think that meeting someone for the first time while in active labor would be a little awkward, no? Nope – not with these women. We had all KINDS of interesting things to talk about while we were waiting for Miss E’s arrival – I’m pretty sure that at least some of these conversation topics resulted in some pretty weird dreams for poor Alyssa, as she was dozing in and out between contractions and nurse visits.
I was so, so excited to be a part of this day with these two – I never take it for granted when people invite me in to one of the most significant moments in their lives. As much as I love seeing babies come into the world, I’m just as awed and inspired to be witness to two people becoming parents for the first time–it never gets old. A quote that always sort of echoes in my head during birth sessions is one I heard a long time ago, by Osho:
“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.”
With two moms being born that day at Touro, that room was just bursting with motherly love, y’all. The whole world just dropped away as they finally got to meet this little girl who instantly and totally took over their hearts. I love those moments – when new parents are so wrapped up in their love for each other and for this new little human being that has so suddenly made them something and someone all together new, that nothing and no one else exists but them and that amazing bond that is unlike anything else on earth. It’s peace, and it’s calm, and it’s joy, and a happiness that would make lesser mortals explode, it’s so irrepressible.
This was my first same sex birth photography session. I went into it praying that I would be able to do it justice. I left feeling privileged to have been invited in for these magical moments.
I may have walked into that delivery room a stranger, but between the newly minted Momma and Mommy and their amazing circle of supportive, warm, loving friends and family….I certainly didn’t stay one for long. I’m so privileged to have been a part of this day. <3
