This is one of those weddings. The ones for which I find it impossible to come up with adequate words to describe.
I knew Kimberly and Jarrett were going to be perfect from the first time I chatted with them. It was clear from the first that what was most important to them was the marriage. Rather than the wedding. Getting great images of such a wonderful time in their lives was a big deal for them. Needless to say, I was so honored when they said they wanted to book me to document their day – and no one else! (Side note: I am the total opposite of immune to flattery!)
When their initial plan to have a ceremony at Houma’s House went awry, Kimberly asked me how I felt about them moving the ceremony to a voodoo temple in New Orleans. It is no exaggeration to say that I was half convinced that my head would explode for half a second, hearing those words! I am all about making your wedding day unique and significant to who you are as a couple. Kimberly had been visiting this temple for years, so it was a very special place for her–and I knew that when the venue is meaningful, the moments are plentiful!
And, as expected, their day was perfect, with so many memorable moments. In true southern hospitality fashion, Kimberly’s florists stood in as baby-whisperer for the couple’s infant son, and bridesmaid/witness. We even got an impromptu song!
We followed up the ceremony with portraits with an authentic Banksy (another exciting moment!), and portraits in the Sculpture Garden at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
It was nearly impossible to pick favorites from this day, but check out a few! <3
Venue: Voodoo Spiritual Temple
Florists: House of Redds
Hair and Makeup: Verde Beauty
Kimberly and Jarrett’s littlest love served as groomsman for them – how special is that memory going to be when he’s old enough to look at these images?
I was so honored that Priestess Miriam invited us into her space for this day! She was wonderfully warm and funny–and so welcoming!
I’m not normally one for a lot of detail shots – but in this environment, WHO COULD RESIST!?
Anyone up for a unique bridal portrait?
The impromptu serenade was a hit!
I loved the beautiful artwork of Kimberly’s tattoos, and the way Jarrett couldn’t seem to keep his hands off of her. <3
A little emotion overwhelm is never a bad thing on a wedding day!
Maybe one of my favorite couples’ portraits ever! These two gave me complete faith as they dashed across the street to pose however I asked them to – without much of a clue as to what I was going for at the time! 😉
Real life with a new baby! They’re rarely clean, but always lovable! <3
I mean, when there’s a butt statue…you kinda have to incorporate it! 😉
