I’ve been sitting here for a bit now, just trying to come up with the words to tell you guys about Jill and Mehdi’s New Orleans Wedding Photography. It was *that* kind of wedding. The kind that, when it comes time to blog it, I start typing, and stop, and start again. Eventually, I come to the realization that no words that I have at my disposal are ever really going to be able to do it justice. So I might as well just start writing and hope that the images do it half the justice that it deserves.
I knew I liked Jill and Mehdi from the second I met them. They’re both wonderful people individually, but together they’re something all together different. She’s inspiring, and warm, and kind; he’s funny, and relaxed, and personable. But together they’re magnetic, and interesting. Totally the kind of people you just want to sit down. And have dinner with five minutes after meeting them (ironically, as I found out later, they are known for their dinner parties).
I was so excited to shoot their wedding. Not only because I knew it was going to be fun and beautiful (and it was those things). But also because I could just tell they were going to be my “people”. And that this wedding was going to be full of emotion.
And man, was I not wrong, or what?
These two picked the fun and picturesque Magnolia Bridge, over Bayou St. John, as their ceremony venue. How cool is getting married on a bridge? Family and friends decorated it. Loved ones thronged the bridge and lined the shores. They even had kayakers stroke lazily through while they were saying their vows. And the weather was perfect!
All that pretty scenery pretty much disappeared for Jill and Mehdi. Once Jill started down that aisle, though. After dancing down the aisle to the center of the bridge. Mehdi was absolutely arrested when Jill appeared and started her walk down. She, in turn, never stopped beaming right back at him. From Mehdi choking up when he first caught sight of Jill to the sweet moment when Jill laid a hand on Mehdi’s arm as he recited his vows, this wedding was just full of moments.
Immediately after the ceremony, Jill and Mehdi and all their friends and loved ones launched right into a fun second line down to their reception venue at the Sculpture Garden.
Can you believe that these two threw together this gorgeous wedding in just three months? The garden was decorated just beautifully. Jill and Mehdi are all about community and giving back to the city, so it was important to them to use local vendors for everything that they could. Not only were all the details–from the strung lights to the formal dinner. Beautifully put together. They thought of everything, including ordering pizza for the little ones and providing hula hoops and crayons for entertainment. My House NOLA did a great job with the planning, decorating, and helping everything run smoothly!
When it came time for speeches, that part of the evening was just as meaningful and emotional (and funny) as the rest of the day. In-jokes were referenced, eloquent tributes were given, and it was readily apparent just how much these two mean to all of those around them. The night just absolutely could not have been any more special, and I feel so honored to have been able to share in creating all of these memories with them.
As impossible as it’s been to pick…here are a few of my favorite images from the day. <3
