Baton Rouge Wedding Photographer Engagement Photography CE

FILED IN: Engagement

One of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer is getting to meet all kinds of amazing people.

This stage in a couple’s life is kind of a big one. I’m always humbled and grateful to be asked to document it. But these guys were particularly near and dear to me! I hadn’t met them before their engagement session, but it still felt like we’d known each other forever when we finally got some face to face time.

I still remember the first time we had to reschedule their session. Erin and I had been corresponding for months about photographing their engagements, and when we had to reschedule due to the weather, neither one of us thought much about it.

South Louisiana weather patterns, right? So unpredictable. When the water started gathering on roads and streets, we both thought we’d just pick the next available weekend. Things surely would have dried up by then!

Little did we know, but those rains were the start of the great flood of 2016.

The water rose, and rose, and rose. Soggy streets turned into whole communities losing their homes. When the government found itself unprepared for the magnitude of this disaster, country boys stepped up. They got out their boats, hitched them up to their pickup trucks, and put in wherever they could to do the most good.

Lives were saved that day. I’m so proud to say that Chris was one of the founding members of the now-famous Cajun Navy!

Because he was just a little bit busy in those days following our original date, it was a while before we could reschedule.

Once things finally leveled out a bit, we got a new date on the books. Not long after, though, Erin contacted me, heartbroken, to tell me that their beloved Labrador had passed away.

My own dogs are like children to me, so I totally understood when she asked if they could reschedule again.

As sad as it was to not have their Dixie with them for photos as they’d originally planned, they brought along a photograph of her. Include her in the images was a great way to honor her!

Losing a pet is never easy, but I’m so glad these guys trusted me with these memories in such a bittersweet time.

Our session on the grounds of the Lamar Dixon Expo Center, against the sunlit trees and still pond, was as perfect as we could have wished for. I can’t wait to photograph their Texas wedding in March! <3
