It’s always a pleasure, photographing a birth at Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. I documented this birth for a fellow photographer recently, and got the opportunity to meet this lovely couple and watch their beautiful little boy come into the world–and it was such a pleasure!
I’ve often been asked how we birth photographers juggle multiple clients and family life? Given how unpredictable birth is. The answer to that is that it takes a lot of experience, good planning, and a solid backup plan! I’m lucky enough to have some great colleagues who are willing to be there for me and my clients should an emergency arise or if two birth clients go into labor at once. We take care of each other when life is at its most unpredictable!
So, when my colleague at Ashley Landry Photography needed someone to fill in for her for a few hours, I was happy to oblige. And this birth turned out to be a perfect example of how unpredictable birth can be! Ashley needed only two hours. When I got to the hospital, I thought *for sure* that mom Lauren had plenty of time before little Hudson made his grand entrance. Well, it didn’t take long, for THAT line of thought to be proven wrong! Within an hour of my arrival, baby Hudson was ready!
Check out a few of my favorite images – and my favorite “Dad-in-the-delivery-room” shirt ever!
Baby boy and his daddy now share a birthday!
Favorite. Shirt. Ever.
It’s these little moments of connection that make the whole story come together!
I love this shot, with grandma wiping away tears!
A little cord cutting. <3
THIS SHIRT, THOUGH.
Hey there, world!
This is the funniest shot! Baby boy was giving grandma some serious side-eye!
Oh, this moment – I love the look in dad’s eyes as he looks at mom! <3
