This. Family.
Let me tell you about this family, guys. They *get* it – they really get the value of birth images – the value of images in general, really. This was the second time that I had the privilege of photographing a birth for them. And I was not joking when I told them that they are the gold standard in birth clients, for me! So, of course when they asked me to document their second baby’s entrance into the world, I was *all* over it.
Sara and Brian’s first birth at Woman’s Hospital was a long one. Still one of the longest I’ve attended to date! Sara was an absolute powerhouse through almost an entire day of labor for their first. And I knew that whatever this birth day had in store for us. I could depend on her rocking it – and she absolutely did.
Her first baby was born via c-section after a long, complicated and exhausting labor, and Sara was really hoping to accomplish a VBAC this time around. For those to whom that term may be new, a VBAC is a vaginal delivery after a previous c-section. Sara was so at peace with whatever the cards had in store for her, but I was so pumped for her when she was able to have the vaginal delivery that she wanted!
Throughout the labor and delivery process, Sara and Brian were so cute with one another. I don’t think ever seen a dad more supportive and solid as a rock as Brian was. He knew all the right words to say to calm and comfort her through all of the ups and downs – and he made her laugh more than a time or two!
Baby Rhys was born, healthy and happy, into the most loving little family on Thanksgiving Day – and he’s definitely one lucky little guy!
Also, if his nickname isn’t “Turkey”, I’m going to be very disappointed. 😉
The bond between these two…it’s the stuff of legend, really
Sara had a GREAT attitude throughout the whole labor – but watching her occasional moments of struggle was tough on Brian
One of my favorite birth images to date – check out that tear running down Sara’s cheek as she realizes that she’s finally about to have her baby in arms!
This is what I mean when I say birth images are not only for mom and dad. These images will outlive you, and be passed down to your children. One day, Rhys will see these images, and it’ll be the look on his dad’s face when he was first placed into his arms that’ll get him.
Face-timing with his biggest brothers!
I may never get over this kid’s face. WHAT IS THAT?!
Head butt! The first of many, I’m sure
Once this kid decided he liked “his” baby, he was not excited about the prospect of giving him up!
