What an emotional birth photography story this was! When I met with Katie about documenting her birth story. I knew immediately that we were going to be a great fit for one another. And have an epic journey to document. Connecting with and being on the same page with one another is so important when choosing a birth photographer. And Katie’s case proves why! Sometimes, things move very quickly. And it’s important to really trust the people in your birth space. So you’re prepared to handle anything together.
Katie was laboring in the tub at Woman’s hospital with what she thought was plenty of time to go before little Phoenix made his arrival. When things took a sharp left turn. Dad let out a yell that he could see Phoenix’s head. And what seemed like every nurse in the hospital came rushing into one small bathroom on the second floor of Woman’s Hospital that day. The look on Bret’s face as he supported his baby’s head while the nurses came running was priceless! They eased that little guy safely into his mom’s arms while Katie’s doula and medical team all did their best to recover from the shock of how fast everything went down.
Just when I thought this birth story couldn’t get any more incredible, in came big brother Cyan. His reaction to meeting his little bro was just incredible! He was so sweet, and instantly started crying the happiest of tears. Watching siblings meet for the first time like that is one of the very best parts of my job. Knowing that I capture images that will tell the beginning of their friendship forever is such a great feeling!
Check out some of my very favorite images – it was impossible to pick with these guys, but I did the best I could! <3
