Surprise Proposal in Baton Rouge | MacKenzie and John Clark
What a fantastic ruse, for a surprise proposal plan! I often get asked for my opinion on how it’s best to plan a surprise proposal. And some of the ideas are really creative! This one was deceptively simple. And kinda perfect.
MacKenzie’s family told her that they were having family photos done in Capitol Park, in downtown Baton Rouge. And–bada-bing!–there’s a great excuse to get dressed up and have your nails done. AND, as a bonus… it’s totally not suspicious to have a photographer present!
So, we took a few family photos, wandered our way over to Armory Park, and LITTLE DID MACKENZIE KNOW… John Clark was ready to pop out with a little surprise!
The look on MacKenzie’s face as John Clark went down on one knee was priceless. The two of them–and all of their family members–were so filled with joy. It was infectious! John Clark did a wonderful job of convincing MacKenzie he would be out of town for the weekend. It was a complete shock to her!
Photographing surprise proposals means capturing the WHOLE story. I loved photographing not only the big moment, but also the sweet ones, afterward. John Clark had one of the BEST proposal ideas I’d ever seen! He had friends and family record sweet “countdown” messages for MacKenzie, sending video messages of excitement and best wishes. They watched them together after that bling was officially on her finger! It was *adorable*.
After some more celebratory photos with friends and family, we took some time to get some great portraits to mark the occasion.
I had so much fun with this crew! I’m continually grateful to be asked to capture such memorable times in my clients’ lives. ♥

MacKenzie kept saying, “I’m going to be somebody’s WIFE! Isn’t that WEIRD?!” 😂

That tear rolling down John Clark’s cheek….! He got me, man. 😭

Looking for a surprise proposal photographer in Baton Rouge? I’m kinda your girl – so hit me up! I love love. ♥
