Windrush Gardens in Baton Rouge is one of my very favorite locations for photographs.
I got so lucky when these two magical unicorn people asked me to photograph a wedding session for them. They were planning having an elopement wedding before the craziness of COVID-19 hit, but they knew they wanted some great photos here in Baton Rouge, where their home is. I love that even though they were planning a small, simple wedding on the beach…they knew that getting wedding photos was still important!
So, these two got their wedding clothes on, Kelsey got her hair and makeup done…and we made some serious magic together, the three of us!
Kelsey told me that Matt was a little nervous about taking photos before we got started. It turns out that neither one of them has had professional photos taken since they were in school!
The thing is, though – that’s totally normal! Real talk: It’s *very* rare that anyone feels natural in front of a camera. Especially guys. Unless you’re a career model, feeling awkward while being photographed is pretty standard.
AND…people who declare that they’re awkward are some of my favorite people to photograph. ‘Cuz then, I get to show them how awesome they can look on camera when we just hang out and have fun together.
My approach to wedding and engagement photography is really relaxed and natural. These two and I just hung out and got to know one another as we took photos ((Kelsey’s in the Coast Guard, how cool is that?!), and had so much fun! We could not have bonded faster, I think. Jokes were told, one or possibly more than one of us may have laughed until we snorted…
It was awesome.
And Windrush Gardens in Baton Rouge is so beautiful, all year round. The wisteria was blooming, the Spanish moss was just the right level of sunlit, and we had some killer light the whole time.
(Side note: Did you know that Wisteria is also known as “blue rain”? I think I’ve decided that I prefer the nickname on this one. Plus, it’s easier to spell–just sayin’).
