Engagement Photos with a Dog | Baton Rouge Photography at LSU

FILED IN: Engagement

What makes me happier than engagement photos with a dog? Not much, folks. Not much at all. πŸ˜‚

Okay, kidding – there are probably a FEW things that make me happier, but…it was really hard to remember them, during this session. Brittany and Kyle asked if they could bring their basset hound Hattie with them for their engagement session. Which, if you know me…you can guess the answer to that one!

I have (to my regret, occasionally) THREE dogs of my own. I feel like pets make the world a better place, am I right?! So, I was on board with these two’s idea to include Hattie, for sure.

Brittany works at LSU and absolutely loves the campus, so it was a natural first pick for our engagement session location!

LSU has it all – stately oak trees, gorgeous sunsets, and plenty of room for puppers to roam!

Or, you know…be followed around by Brittany and Kyle’s friend, holding a bag of dog treats.

Hattie was eternally optimistic, and a VERY good girl. πŸ˜‰

We started out our session just before sunset, which is theΒ perfect time of day to photograph! All of that warm, glow-y sunset light just makes your photos awash in dreamy light. It makes your photographer super happy too, if I’m honest.

My very favorite part of the session was when Hattie got a little mischievous. As we were taking some “walking” images across the LSU quad, I could swear I saw a little gleam in that pup’s eyes… She was well aware that her more restrictive collar had been swapped out for a more ornamental one for the photos, I think. After we’d gotten a couple of “cute Hattie” photos (she’s considerate, like that), Hattie broke into a run! Watching her little ears flop in the wind and her owners scramble after her was pretty iconic.

The best photos are the ones with real memories attached!

That’s what you have to keep in mind when you’re taking engagement photos with your dog. They have their own personalities, and are gonna go off script occasionally!

As you can see from Hattie, below, though… they usually pull it out anyway. πŸ˜‰

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate this spectacular escape attempt?!

Oh, Hattie…I have a feeling I’m never going to be able to top you. Her face sums up 2020 for all of us, I think!
